COP29 - Baku, Azerbaijan

The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) will be attending COP29 for the eighth consecutive year. This year, our focus is on the goal of #GreeningEducation, placing youth at the center of all future sustainability discussions.

Saturday 16th November
Event Title: #TeachersCOP

    The TeachersCOP is an international event created by the Office for Climate Education (OCE), in partnership with VVOB education for development, to highlight to global politicians and decision-makers the work of teachers, the challenges they face and the key role they play in the global climate response.

Event title: Meeting the Greening Education Partnership (GEP) Targets with Quality: Critical Enablers

  • Description: This event is being organised in collaboration with the Office of Climate Education (OCE) and the Centre for Environmental Education (CEE) India, bringing together leading voices in climate education to discuss the progress of the Greening Education Partnership (GEP).

    The event will reflect on the progress of the Greening Education Partnership and discuss the key enablers that need to be there to facilitate the realisation of the goals of GEP.

    Key recommendations for a coherent and synchronous approach to achieving quality climate education will be the key outcome.

Kartikeya Sarabhai

Founder Director of the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) India. Managing Trustee of the Nehru Foundation for Development (NFD). Trustee of the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust and the Chair of the Governing Council of the Earth Charter International.

Eric Guilyardi

President OCE/ Climate scientist at LOCEAN-IPSL in France and professor of climate science at NCAS-Climate, University of Reading, in the UK. Currently President of the Office for Climate Education, under the auspices of UNESCO, which develops climate change education resources and professional development for teachers.

Dr. Pramod Kumar Sharma

Senior Director of Education at FEE. Member of the Scientific and Pedagogical Committee of OCE, and on the advisory group of the UNESCO-led Greening Education Partnership. European Regional Hub Co-Chair for the Monitoring and Evaluating Climate Communication and Education project (MECCE).

Aida Mammadova

Head of the English Department at ADA School, Graduated from Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy with a Master's in Educational Management. Aida is currently cooperating with Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-stock Company, delivering international news coverage on COP 29 as a news presenter.

Dr. Sweta Purohit

Programme Director, Climate Change at Centre for Environment Education (CEE) India. Currently leading the Climate Change Education Programme for Teachers in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, NCERT, UNICEF and UNESCO.

Simon Wanda

Programme Specialist in UNESCO's Section for Education for Sustainable Development, Paris, France. Coordinates activities of the Greening Education Partnership, aiming to transform education to help transform the world.

Dr. Aaron Benavot

Professor of Global Education Policy at the University at Albany-SUNY (USA). Teaches global citizenship education, climate and sustainability education, resiliency and social and emotional learning. Directed UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring Report (2014-17).

Susan Jafarova

Youth Climate Envoy passionate about protecting children’s rights, in the context of climate change. Second-place winner of the written part of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Competition with her team among 150 other teams. Actively involved in engaging youth from NAM Member States.

COP29 - Preparation Events

COP Climate Summer Camp (August 2024)

The Climate Summer Camp aligned with the work of the Greening Education Partnership, introducing and applying new resources, such as the Greening Curriculum Guidance and the Green School Quality Standard – tools developed by the Partnership to support countries, schools and individual educators in implementing climate action through education.

The Camp’s programme covered critical concepts related to climate change, including its causes and impacts, as well as climate justice and climate anxiety. It addressed all aspects of climate change education – cognitive, socio-emotional and behavioural – ensuring a comprehensive understanding among participants.

 

COP29 Simulation for Youth - Ecological Forum (October 2024)

This event gathered 300+ young eco-club members to explore climate action through COP-style simulations! Hosted by the Ministry of Science & Education and FEE's National Member, “EkoSfera," the forum empowered youth with hands-on learning in diplomacy, environmental protection, and climate action strategy-building.
